This session will consider the ways in which emerging open publishing systems replicate the problems of traditional models, including existing power structures and hierarchies. The panel will then reflect on what a truly open publishing system might look like in their contexts (open education, open access, library publishing etc.), including the role of technology, re-use rights, peer review and language & translation, as well as the vital importance of ensuring those who have been structurally excluded from and marginalised within academia and publishing are part of the rebuilding process.
