We propose to discuss the specific challenges faced by the community of researchers that produce and use language resources (LR) for scientific research, and wish to do so under a Creative Commons license, in order to ensure openness, fairness and reproducibility of science. We discuss the advantages of CC licenses for LRs and their metadata; the need to reconcile the CC philosophy of placing no purpose restrictions with recent developments in EU data protection law; and the need to advocate the adoption of CC as a means to publish language data by academic and research institutions.
