Language is the oldest of humanity’s commons. A language belongs to everybody speaking it, carrying emotions, stories, anecdotes and traditions that can be both public and private. Language diversity helps participate in commoning in the way that is most intuitively understood. No wonder that in some political settings a politically sensitive language is first to be policed, forbidden, and erased. By nourishing and honoring language diversity in and via the commons, our community can counteract marginalisation and erasure of the wealth of the human experience. But are we doing a good job?
