Hello nice to meet you! My name is Luis and I love everything GLAM, especially art history, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to talk about the world of museums and the internet.

I am currently providing advice to the directors of Portugal's Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage  (DGPC) on digital practices. It is a dream job but a mammoth endeavour, as the DGPC is responsible for the oversight and management of 22 national museums and monuments. Every day my colleagues and I look at ways of making cultural heritage content available online in engaging ways.

Prior to my work at the DGPC, I was coordinating the Europeana Network (a network of GLAM professionals united by commons principles), whilst there the network became an association and doubled in size becoming a trully democratic organisation. It was my first exposure to the world of Open Access and it was becoming increasingly evident that Public Domain recognitio,n no longer an exception, was on its way to becoming a best practice in the GLAM sector.

Through my experience at Europeana, I became a firm believer in the value of Open Access, finding it to be a good marker for progressive and inclusive societies. Consequently, I have been raving about the importance of Public Domain recognition in the museum world whenever I can and have written articles in national newspapers and museum magazines to this end using every opportunity I can to use these practices professionally.
