Whose Knowledge

Adele Vrana is an Afro-Brazilian feminist, anti-racism activist, and Wikimedian against-all-odds, who advocates for a decolonized internet where people like her can be visible, heard and affirmed. As the former Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Wikimedia Foundation, she led business development and partnership initiatives to help increase access to knowledge and Global South representation in the movement. She is a 2015 Erasmus Prize laureate on behalf of this work. Before leaving Brazil, Adele has led initiatives aimed at supporting women, young people and refugees in extremely vulnerable conditions across her country. Adele has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of São Paulo. When she is not spending time with her two feminist boys, she loves reading and being inspired by black feminist authors.

Adele is a co-director of Whose Knowledge?, a global campaign working to create, collect and curate knowledge from and with marginalized communities, so that the internet we build and defend is ultimately an internet of, for and by all. We believe this can only happen by centering and affirming marginalized communities in the world’s knowledge, history, and online commons.
